House removals in Croydon

A whole household anywhere in the borough. The furniture is much the same wherever you are in Croydon; what changes is the ground it has to cross to reach the van, and that is what the survey is actually measuring.

The single most useful thing you can tell us at enquiry is the district. It predicts the day better than the bedroom count.

What a house move includes

Survey Free, in person or by video, with the approach checked as carefully as the contents.
Written quote Against a measured volume and a stated packing depth, comparable with any other firm.
Protection Floor runners, jamb covers, blankets and covers on upholstery and mattresses.
Dismantling Beds, wardrobes and tables taken down and rebuilt at the other end.
Parking Suspensions applied for through Croydon Council where a street needs one.
Placement Into the room you name rather than stacked in the hall.

The same house in three districts

Put a three-bedroom family house in Thornton Heath and the job is about parking. The street is terraced, the kerb is full, and the distance from the front door to wherever the van can legally sit is the largest single cost in the day.

Put it in South Croydon and it becomes straightforward. A drive, side access, and rooms that furniture actually fits through. These are the quickest surveys and the most predictable days we have.

Put it in Purley and it becomes vertical. The house is above or below the road, the approach is stepped, and the vehicle has to be parked pointing a particular way so the crew is not carrying uphill with a wardrobe.

Where the volume hides in Croydon

In the interwar and Edwardian districts — South Croydon, Shirley, Selsdon, Sanderstead — it is the loft and the garage, exactly as it is everywhere. Both need opening at survey, and both are routinely forgotten.

In the terraced districts it is more often a cellar or a rear extension nobody mentioned, plus a side return holding bicycles and garden things.

In the Downs houses it is outbuildings and garden machinery, which are heavier and dirtier than people expect and slower to load than the house itself.

How the day is ordered

Packing first, ours or yours. Protection down. Loading heaviest and hardest-wearing first, with whatever you want that first night going on last so it comes off first.

At the far end we unload to rooms, rebuild what we dismantled, and take packing materials away if you want them gone.

If the chain slips

Croydon buying chains run long, partly because the borough spans such a wide price range. If your sale completes and your purchase does not, the goods can be collected on the fixed date, listed and held until the other side is real.

It is worth raising at survey even if you expect it not to happen — see storage.

Questions about house removals

  1. 01

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as the date is real. Fridays and month-ends go first. If the date is still soft, get the survey done anyway — the quote does not expire when the date moves.

  2. 02

Will I need a parking suspension?

In the dense districts, frequently; where you have a drive, no. We check the street at survey and apply through the council where one is needed.

  3. 03

Do you empty lofts and garages?

Yes, if they are safe and reachable — and they need to be on the inventory. An uncounted garage is the commonest reason a quote and an invoice disagree.

  4. 04

    Do you move on Saturdays?

Yes. Any weekend difference appears on the written quote before you commit.

  5. 05

    What cannot you take?

Fuel, gas bottles, fireworks, solvents, open paint, anything corrosive. Plants and perishables at your own risk.

Tell us the district and the floor

The two addresses, what is moving, and what sits between your front door and the road. We read it, ask what the form could not, and come back with a written quote.
